Installation in the grain barn at Gut Siggen, Ostholstein, Germany
Wood, metal, rope, lights
ca. 12 x 6 x 15 m

The project attempted to capture the build-up towards an extraordinary event, an upturn in the temporal cycle. A large treadwheel crane was built inside the agricultural barn, shortly before hundreds of thousands tonnes of grain would fill it, once again, during the next harvest. Similar machines were used since the times of ancient Greeks, helping to erect the greatest cathedrals around the world. A treadwheel functions as a large winch: it requires a person to walk inside it in order to lift the load, in this case a frame modelled on the barn’s entrance gate.
